One of the songs that became very popular among young Christians in the late 1980's and 1990's was called “Awesome God,” first recorded by Rich Mullins. You may have heard it. The chorus went like this:

Our God is an awesome God,

He reigns from Heaven above,

With wisdom, power and love,

Our God is an awesome God!

Sometimes we forget that God is so awesome because we’re so involved with our busy lives and in the lives of others. Our God really is awesome and today's passage helps pull our attention back to his awesomeness, so let's listen to it:

On the glorious splendor of your majesty…on your wondrous works, I will meditate.  (Psalm 145:5)

Do you ever meditate on how glorious, majestic, and wondrous God is? The psalmist sure did! He's considering that God is all of those things. He's not asking God for anything; he's meditating on the God who created and sustains the universe, the God who knows everything, all the time, from before time. He's thinking about God who stands outside of time and space—the God who forgives sin, who heals diseases, who casts out demons, who can be in contact with everyone around the world at the same time. Who is this God? What is His Name? Jesus! He's the King of Glory.

Today, take some time to meditate on God. Don't ask Him for anything, just consider who God really is. He's AWESOME...and that's very Good News!
