The Bible isn't a religious book or a book of rules; it's a book about us, about God, and about our life with Him, and learning to live in the truths of God’s Word. One of those truths encourages us to periodically go back and see what God has shown us over the course of our lives. Today’s passage from the book of Deuteronomy is helpful, because it encourages to think back. Let's listen to it:

Remember today what you have learned about the Lord through your experiences with him. It was you, not your children, who had these experiences. You saw the Lord's greatness, his power, his might, and his miracles. (Deut. 11:2-3a GNT)

Do you ever do this—take time to reflect on the things God has done in your life? Recently, I thought back to 1990, when I was laid off from my job. During that time, there were no jobs to be found. The economy was very weak. Jobs for which I thought I was qualified were very hard to find and I remained unemployed for five months. Pam and I had a family and a mortgage and the Lord provided for us throughout that time. Then I met a man who, in exchange for helping him bid on new projects, gave me free office space while I looked for a job. When I did finally find a new job, it was with a company that was not hiring! Yes, you heard that right – I was hired by a company that was not hiring. In that new job I learned how to do many new things, which, later on, helped me to have a wonderful career.

Let’s listen to our passage one more time: "Remember today what you have learned about the Lord through your experiences with him." So today, I encourage you to do just that. Look back over the years and consider the things God has taught you through your experiences with Him. As you do this you will discover that you have seen God come through for you in wonderful and sometimes even miraculous ways. God takes care of His kids...and that is very Good News!
