Have you ever depended on someone and that person let you down when you really needed them to come through? This kind of thing can damage a relationship and sometimes even destroy it. We trust people to do what they say they will do; we need their commitment but they have other things going on which get in the way. Let’s face it; everyone will eventually let us down in some way. Nobody will always come through for us; that is, nobody but God. Whatever God promises to do, He will do, and that’s one of the things I like best about Him! Let’s take a few moments together to listen to one of my favorite passages in the entire Bible and consider what it means for you and for me:

I have created you and cared for you since you were born and I will be your God throughout your lifetime, yes, even when your hair is white with age. I made you and will care for you. I will carry you along and be your Savior. (Isaiah 46:4)

This is a passage for every stage of life, but it becomes even more meaningful for me with each passing year. I grew up with a sense that God cared for me. My parents often reinforced this and I just sort of went along with it. As I went through my teen years, this feeling that God cared for me grew and when I was nineteen I surrendered my life to Christ. Since then, I have always carried with me this sense that God was traveling with me as I went through life. Now I’m seventy years old and I am becoming more aware of the time I have left on earth. In today’s passage, God tells us that He is that “Constant Presence” that goes with us through life. He isn’t some disinterested Intelligent Designer or “Universal Power”; He is a present Person who cares for you and cares for me and expresses it in very tender terms. Here’s the Scripture again: “I have created you and cared for you since you were born and I will be your God throughout your lifetime, yes, even when your hair is white with age. I made you and will care for you. I will carry you along and be your Savior.” Isn’t that great? Isn’t it a comfort? When I was young I thought I could do it all myself, in my own power. In fact, I thought I WAS doing it all! As I grow older I realize that I needed Him then and I need Him even more now. I need Him to be with me all the time. What a comfort to know that God will not abandon me when my hair is white with age – because my hair is getting whiter all the time! God says that He made you and will care for you all of your life. At the end of your life He promises to carry you along and be your Savior. Isn’t that a wonderful promise? Today, take time to think about how much God loves you. He cares about everything that happens to you. He didn’t stop caring at any moment during your life - He has been your constant Friend. If you are young and strong today, rejoice! God is with you in the days of your strength. If you are in your middle years, rejoice! God is with you as you mature, growing to have more wisdom and experience. If you are nearing the end of your days, rejoice!

God has walked beside you every day for all of your days and He will not leave you when the time comes for you to leave this life.  He will carry you along and be your Savior…and that’s the very Best News!
