Have you ever thought much about your purpose? Many years ago, Rick Warren wrote a book called The Purpose Driven Life. It was life-changing for many people. In fact, my father in law was 95 years old when he read it...and after he finished, he asked to be baptized! God really means for your life and mine to have purpose. To consider this idea, let’s take a moment and listen to a brief passage:

I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. (Psalm 57:2)

In this passage, the psalmist says, "I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me." Wow! God has a purpose for you and He has a purpose for me, too. One of the things we have to learn to embrace, if we're following Jesus, is the knowledge that He has His own purpose for you and me and He will not be prevented from fulfilling His purposes. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a cowboy. Later, I wanted a career playing music in rock bands. I was a drummer in a number of bands and loved doing it. But despite my dreams and goals, I discovered that God had other plans for me. Along the way, people told me that they thought that I should do certain things for a career, things that seemed to make sense. They said I should be a pastor. They said I should be a writer. I thought those things too, but God had a different career for me in a field in which I had no particular interest. It has been my joy to discover God's purpose and provision for my life as I followed Him. What's God's purpose for you? Do you want to know? God has the very best plan and purpose for your life—much better than your own plan.

If you will follow Him, you will discover it...and that's very Good News!
