The course was taught Monday through Friday from 3-8pm on the Seminario Reformado Latinoamericano – Bolivia campus. There are about 10 men currently enrolled full time in the school. They live there, they work there, and enjoy all of their meals together. It was really encouraging to see and be a part of this group of men for the week. Unfortunately, only one of them spoke a little bit of English so nearly all of my conversations through the week were conducted via google translate. They were all extremely respectful, engaged, and eager to learn with many great questions after class.
In addition to the 10 men who were full time students the class was attended by approximately 15 local area pastors who were looking to further their study, as well as 40 or so members of the congregation who were hungry for a deeper understanding of God’s Word. The zeal for truth I think is perhaps best illustrated by the trajectory that church which hosts the seminary has been on for the last 15 or so years. They were planted as a Pentecostal Arminian church. Around 10 years ago they found several John MacArthur resources published by Grace to You in Spanish. As a result, they rather quickly became Calvinists. Around 5 years ago they adopted the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith as their official doctrinal standards, and they have a growing interest in Reformed Presbyterianism. This is thanks in large part to the proliferation of resources published by Ligonier and Reformation Heritage Books in Spanish.
“Christmas means that, through the grace of God and the incarnation, peace with God is available; and if you make peace with God, then you can go out and make peace with everybody else. And the more people who embrace the gospel and do that, the better off the world is. Christmas, therefore, means the increase of peace—both with God and between people—across the face of the world.”
