This was my second trip to teach in Cochabamba. I had the privilege of meeting Rev. Mateo Cruz, the current pastor's father. Mateo was the seed for the flourishing work in Cochabamba. To bring his denomination of 1,000 churches back to their historic calvinistic beliefs he sacrificed everything. For his efforts as President of the denomination, he lost his job, church, house, and pension. Mateo persisted in his stand for God's Truth. He attended the course I taught and is sitting on one side of me in the picture and his son Gerson is on the other side of me. What an honor to serve them, their flock, and the Seminary!
After teaching the seminary course "Man and Christ" to about 40 people each night, including 9 seminary students in Cochabamba, I preached twice at a new church plant in nearby Colcapirhua. I taught there last year too. They are building a sizeable church that may hold 200 people. Their youthful energy and love for the Lord is contagious!
As we ate lunch at the church plant, I was peppered with questions from two girls (13 or 14 years old) who wanted to know about the book of Revelation because of a sensational video they had seen. I talked to them about the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD (Rev. 11) and the fall of Rome around 500 AD (Rev. 17) and Christ's subsequent victory over all earthly kingdoms (Rev. 19). The girls were relieved by what I taught them about Revelation. My conversation with them is an example of other informal conversations I had with students and families while I was in Bolivia.
