Expository Preaching

From August 4 to 8, 2025, the Reformed Theological Academy in Jacmel offered an intensive week-long training course on Expository Preaching (Preaching 3), based on Jonathan M. Menn's textbook (MINTS). This session brought together a motivated group of theology students eager to strengthen their skills in the faithful and clear exposition of God's Word. The main objective was to equip participants to interpret, structure, and faithfully expound the biblical text, following the methodological principles presented in the book, whether for narrative, poetic, literary plot, or didactic sermons.

The class took place in a studious and fraternal atmosphere. Students benefited from theoretical instruction and practical exercises aimed at mastering the essential steps of expository preaching: text study, formulation of the main clause, organizing sentence, organization of the outline, and integration of applications. Several participants (BA and MATS) had the opportunity to preach a sermon in front of the class to receive constructive evaluations, fostering learning by doing and mutual encouragement.

Those who were unable to preach during the week will apply their work in their respective congregations, under our direct observation, to consolidate their learning. This training responds to the urgent need to train preachers capable of proclaiming the Gospel with precision, clarity, and power, for the edification of the Church and the advancement of the Kingdom of God in Jacmel and beyond.

Throughout the week, participants answered homework questions and took their final exam at the end. To complete their evaluation, they will be required to submit a reading report and a special project by a deadline set by the instructor.
