Students at the Reformed Theological Academy of Jacmel successfully completed an intensive course on "Practical Hermeneutics" from Monday, June 30 to Friday, July 4, 2025. This course, part of a 10-course series with the Miami International Seminary, was led by Dr. Martin Hawley and brought together 19 in-person participants, both BA and MATS. The primary objective of this course was to introduce students to biblical methods of interpretation centered on the text, context, and the intention of the inspired author.
The course content was structured around eight lessons covering, among other things, the hermeneutical circle, the foundations of biblical interpretation, the importance of canonical context, literary genres, and the faithful application of Scripture. Dr. Hawley used a participatory approach: lectures, interactive discussions, guided readings, and practical exercises. Each session encouraged theological reflection and the practical application of hermeneutical principles in pastoral, ministerial, and missionary settings. Students also received written materials and homework assignments.
In addition, eight former graduates of the Reformation Theological Academy in Marin 36, in Plaine, who wish to continue their studies, despite experiencing serious internet network issues, participated online via Zoom to take their first master's degree course with MINTS.
